Job summary

Brunswick County is seeking a Community Enforcement Officer to support the Planning Department. The role focuses on enforcing the Solid Waste and Unified Development Ordinances and coordinating with legal and law enforcement teams.

The officer will maintain case records, inspect sites for zoning compliance, prepare reports for Planning Commission, and respond to citizen inquiries while upholding professional conduct and clear communication with property owners and residents.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree with coursework in law enforcement or zoning law, or an equivalent combination.
• Two years of experience working with zoning ordinances and regulations.
• Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate enforcement activities and court case preparation with legal and law enforcement personnel.
• Maintain cases and complaint records.
• Identify violations to zoning and development codes and ordinances, gather evidence, and discuss violations and corrective action with property owners, residents, and other interested parties.
• Prepare zoning reports, variance reports, ordinance amendments and special reports for Planning Commission meetings as needed.
• Respond to citizen inquiries concerning potential violations of Brunswick County ordinances as well as questions, complaints and/or requests for information.
• Performing site inspections for issuance of certification of zoning compliance.
