Role Overview:

The Community Employment Specialist works independently, making decisions and recommendations for customer referrals and services based on federal and state guidelines and agency policy. The role involves discussing program purposes and results with the supervisor, exercising discretion in seeking technical instructions, and discussing problems as needed.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position typically starts at $42,900.00 but may be higher based on education and experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions include:

  • Gathering information from applicants, evaluating qualifications, educational backgrounds, and employment barriers.
  • Assisting clients with job searches and resume building.
  • Reviewing assessments, client backgrounds, and vocational plans to recommend and coordinate with partner programs within WorkOne offices.
  • Recommending and administering assessment instruments and interpreting aptitude results.
  • Explaining available services from other public assistance agencies and making referrals.
  • Advising applicants on employment opportunities.
  • Referring clients to specialists for veterans’ and other specialized programs when needed.
  • Using data tracking systems to record all services provided to job seekers and business customers.
  • Assisting with job fairs or recruitment events.
  • Providing technical support for automated systems, including ICC (Indiana Career Connect) programs.
  • Presenting educational materials to groups and individuals.

What You'll Need for Success:

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (HSE).
  • At least one (1) year of customer service experience.
  • Understanding of different funding sources available to customers.
  • Knowledge of client tracking methods.
  • Strong research skills and proficiency with internet resources.
  • Professional communication and stakeholder interaction skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships, motivate, and assist customers at various levels.
  • Familiarity with State’s client services systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to prioritize, pay attention to detail, and adapt to policy changes.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may include supervisory duties depending on agency needs.
