Job summary

Weber State University in Utah seeks an adjunct instructor for the Community Education ESL Program to teach one or two 11-week basic English courses to adult learners as needed.

Qualifications

Job Summary/Basic Function

Adjunct instructor of Community Education Center non-credit English as Second Language Program ( ESL ) as needed to teach one or two basic English courses that are 11 weeks long as needed. This instructor will provide instruction to community adult learners.

This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire, and applicants will be notified.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors of Education with a language endorsement or certification such as an ESL endorsement, or TESOL certification

Qualified candidates must possess a specific knowledge base and skill set that includes, at a minimum, the following:

• Language teaching methodology
• The nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
• The structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
• Second language acquisition
• Intercultural competence- Practicum experience

A minimum of one year teaching ESL experience in a classroom setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience living in a foreign country
• Conversational use of a second language
• Two or more years of teaching ESL in a classroom setting
• One or more years of experience teaching ESL to adult learners in a classroom setting
