Job summary

The Children’s Home Society is seeking a Community-Based Doula in Trenton, NJ. The role supports pregnant individuals and families through prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum stages with a flexible schedule and up to 3 births per month (30–36 per year).

Salary is $45,000 annually, with CHSofNJ benefits including medical, dental, life/LTD, vision, FSA, 403(b), and PTO. Education requires a high school diploma and a NJ-approved Doula certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required for this position.
• Must be trained and certified as Doula with any certification approved by New Jersey.
• Experience in Community Health Worker, Doula, Patient Navigator, Home Visitor, or Health and Wellness Coordinator is a plus.
• Agree to enroll as a Medicaid provider under the agency.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional support, physical comfort and information to the pregnant woman, birthing person and family during prenatal, labor, delivery and postpartum.
• Meet eight visits (1.5–2.0 hours each) in prenatal and postpartum periods; assist with breastfeeding and parent–child bonding.
• Refer families to healthcare and basic resources; connect with Case Manager for intense needs.
• Help families create a birth plan and advocate for themselves during birth.
• Be on-call 24/7 for calls/texts and support between visits.
• Attend labor and immediate postpartum periods as needed.
• Record data per policies and enter into the agency database within 24 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide emotional support, physical comfort and information to the pregnant woman, birthing person and her family during the prenatal, labor & delivery, and postpartum periods.
• Meet with participants for a total of eight visits not counting the birth, lasting 1.5-2.0 hours, in both prenatal and postpartum periods. Assist families in initiating breastfeeding and strengthening the parent-child relationship.
• Identify needs and refer families to additional community resources, including healthcare and basic necessities, refer families to Case Manager for more intense needs.
• Assist families in establishing a birth plan and increase the family’s ability to problem solve and advocate for themselves and their children, especially during the birth process.
• Be on-call 24/7 to respond call/texts and are available for support clients in between visits.
• Be on-call and available to leave for the hospital to attend and support the laboring mother and her family during the intrapartum, and immediate postpartum period.
• Be able to participate in meetings, conferences, webinars, trainings, outreach and check in, etc. as needed.
• Keep records in accordance with organizational polices, protocols and regulations set by accrediting agencies.
• Make sure to enter all necessary data into the agency’s designated database system no later than 24 hours.
