NC State University’s Veterinary Hospital seeks a Community Access Clinical Veterinarian to lead mobile outreach delivering primary care to underserved communities in North Carolina. The role focuses on wellness exams, vaccinations, and preventive care for small animals, using on-site diagnostics in a state-of-the-art mobile unit.

The successful candidate will have a DVM/VMD, be licensed or eligible to practice in NC, and thrive in a community-facing clinical setting with a strong team approach

Qualifications

• Strong skills in internal medicine, preventative care, and diagnostic interpretation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• DVM/VMD degree; licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of practice (NC).
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in NC; NC Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary care delivery for small animals, including wellness exams, vaccinations, and parasite prevention.
• Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses.
• Utilize on-site diagnostics such as point-of-care bloodwork, ultrasonography, and digital radiography.
• Act as a face of the organization in regional underserved areas, building trust with pet owners and providing preventive care education.
• Intermittent spay/neuter is anticipated based on demand and mobile unit capabilities.

Essential Job Duties:

Are you passionate about breaking down barriers to veterinary care? We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Veterinarian to lead our mobile outreach initiative. This role is designed for a clinician who thrives on variety, enjoys community engagement, and is committed to providing high-quality primary care to underserved populations.

The Mission

As part of our Community Access team, you will bring the clinic to the client. Operating out of a state-of-the-art mobile unit, you will travel to regional areas where veterinary services are limited, ensuring that every pet—regardless of geography—has access to essential medical care.

Key Responsibilities

• Primary Care Delivery: Provide comprehensive wellness exams, vaccinations, and parasite prevention (anthelmintics and heartworm) for small animals, primarily dogs and cats.
• Clinical Management: Diagnose and treat patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic clinical illnesses.
• Advanced Diagnostics: Utilize on-site technology to guide medical decisions, including point-of-care bloodwork, ultrasonography, and digital radiography.
• Community Engagement: Act as a face of the organization in regional underserved areas, building trust with pet owners and providing education on preventative health.

What We’re Looking For

• DVM/VMD Degree: Must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the state of practice.

Other Responsibilities:

• Intermittent spay neuter is also anticipated based on the demand of the primary care practice areas and can be accomplished with the use of a mobile hospital owned and maintained by the Veterinary Hospital.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), or equivalent

Other Required Qualifications:

• Strong skills in internal medicine, preventative care, and diagnostic interpretation
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• DVM, and at least 1-3 years of experience with a primary care or community care veterinary program
• Small animal primary care/ spectrum of care veterinary skills aligned with shelters and veterinary clinics in central North Carolina

Required License(s) or Certification(s):

• Eligibility for veterinary licensure (or faculty certificate – for those from non-AVMA approved veterinary colleges) in the State of NC
• NC Drivers License within 30 days of hire
