Position Summary:

This role splits time between the Office of Instruction (OVPI) and the Office of Service-Learning (OSL), reporting jointly to OVPI’s Director of Communications and the OSL Director. The communications specialist plans, coordinates, writes, and edits a wide variety of content to promote the university’s broader instructional and service-learning missions. Working closely with campus units, internal stakeholders, and other communications staff, this position coordinates content production and aligns messaging with the division’s overall communications strategy.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
  • Excellent writing and copyediting skills using AP style
  • Can develop engaging stories aligned with the university’s strategic plan
  • Familiarity with photography/videography best practices (Experience in photography a plus)
  • Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once and maintain high attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, administration, and various external stakeholders
  • Proficient in typical office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and website content management systems (e.g., WordPress)

  • Ability to sit at a computer/desk for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes of promotional items or collateral weighing approximately 15–20 pounds

Communications Strategy & Content Development:

Develop, write, edit, and proofread content that promotes Office of Service-Learning programs, initiatives, and fundraising priorities across print and digital channels. Lead and support strategic communications planning for Office of Service-Learning initiatives in alignment with university and Public Service and Outreach priorities. Serve as the Office of Service-Learning representative on the PSO Communications Team and collaborate with campus partners to develop and execute communications strategies.

Coordinate website updates and support digital communications across Office of Instruction units, ensuring accessibility and alignment with university branding and messaging standards.

Write, edit, and proofread content for internal and external communications supporting the Office of Instruction, including articles, newsletters, reports, presentations, and other publications. Develop visual and written content that promotes Office of Instruction programs, initiatives, and strategic priorities.

Marketing, Design & Digital Engagement:

Create marketing and promotional materials for the Office of Service-Learning, including flyers, exhibits, presentations, one-pagers, photography, and other visual assets. Manage Office of Service-Learning website content, social media channels, and digital communications while ensuring accessibility compliance and adherence to university branding standards. Coordinate photography, media releases, and digital content production in collaboration with student interns.

Marketing, Branding & Event Support:

Design marketing and promotional materials for the Office of Instruction, including flyers, handouts, one-pagers, presentations, and other collateral. Support Office of Instruction events through coordination, documentation, and communications coverage. Serve as the Office of Instruction’s logo liaison, reviewing branding and logo usage on promotional materials and coordinating trademark approval processes.

Supervise, train, and mentor student workers and interns supporting Office of Service-Learning communications projects. Provide guidance on communications standards, content development, and project execution.
