Job summary

Cleveland Clinic’s Martin South Hospital seeks a Communications Officer to manage incoming and outgoing communications in the Police and Security Command Center. You will monitor cameras, alarms and surveillance to provide critical information to responders and support a family-oriented, secure environment.

The role requires processing security/police calls, monitoring multiple platforms, and coordinating emergency activations. Weekend days and varied shifts are included to ensure 24/7 coverage.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in a high-volume communications center, PBX operator or a law enforcement/security agency.
• An Associate’s Degree, Public Safety Dispatching certificate or equivalent training with one year of experience.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

As a Communications Officer, you will process incoming and outgoing communications in the Police and Security Command Center as well as monitor cameras, alarms and other surveillance equipment to provide vital information to dispatched responders. This role will allow you to learn with a close-knit group of caregivers and even have the opportunity to move into other roles within the department or beyond.

A caregiver in this position works weekend days from 4:30AM – 5:00PM. Weekday shifts for coverage will be required, as needed, as well as availability to work other shifts.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Receive records, assess urgency and respond to all security/police phone calls and emergency calls.
• Monitor and respond to all incoming alarm signals across multiple platforms.
• Receive and transmit all security/police multi-based radio, air transport and satellite communications.
• Process requests for classified data of employees, patients and public.
• Process code and medical emergency activations received from clinical staff and overhead page information.
• Monitor, analyze and react to real-time alerts via social media and employee travel platforms.
• Draft and disseminate electronic notifications to internal stakeholders.
• Disseminate mass notification alerts to necessary employees during crisis situations.
• Performs clerical functions in the Security Operations Center.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two years of experience in a high-volume communications center, PBX operator or a public or private law enforcement/security agency
• OR an Associate’s Degree, Public Safety Dispatching certificate or equivalent formal training in Criminal Justice, Computer Science or other related field and one year of experience
• OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Prior dispatch experience in 911 or similar environment

Physical Requirements:

• Work requires extensive sitting and dexterity to perform work on a PC.
• Requires the ability to walk to other parts of the police facility and the greater Cleveland Clinic campus.
• Normal or corrected vision and frequent twisting and turning to perform functions. Should be able to lift 40lbs to move, lift and shelve various supplies and equipment.
