Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking an External Relations Coordinator within the School of Communications. You will support communications, outreach, and events that connect alumni, donors and students while upholding BYU's mission.

You will work closely with the administrative team to implement strategy, manage communications content, and supervise student ambassadors. A commitment to BYU's values and effective collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

  • Firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • 4-5 years of job-related experience (preferred).
  • BA with 4-5 years in a related field or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute social media strategy for the School of Communications.
  • Manage BRMB digital signage and school newsletters.
  • Draft donor appreciation letters and invitations to events.
  • Create school promotion materials and coordinate outreach efforts.
  • Supervise student ambassadors and support in mentoring relationships.
  • Coordinate annual lectures, orientation tours, and majors fair events.

Communications – External Relations Coordinator

Provides highly complex office support to a department or function, including researching and recommending content for communications, communicating directives to high level leaders, determining appropriate information to include in reports, defining office policies and procedures, and conducting research and basic analysis.

What you’ll do in this position

This position will work closely with the School of Communications administrative team (director, associate directors, administrative assistant, and business manager) to carry out tasks in the following areas:

RELATIONSHIP AND OUTREACH EFFORTS
  • Social media strategy and execution
  • BRMB digital signage
  • School newsletter
  • Alumni newsletter
  • Donor appreciation letters
  • Invitations to School events
  • School promotion materials
  • Facilitate mentoring relationships between alumni and students
  • Other relationship and outreach efforts as they are identified
EVENTS
  • Coordinate annual lectures/student networking events
  • Oversee new student orientation tours
  • Coordinate student fairs throughout the year, primarily the majors fair
  • Plan and execute, from start to finish, all details of the School scholarship and awards luncheon
COLLEGE EXTERNAL RELATIONS TEAM & COUNCIL SERVICE
  • Communicate with assistant dean and team regarding School news
  • Serve as liaison to the College External Relations Council
STUDENT AMBASSADORS
  • Supervise 2-3 student ambassadors to assist in outreach efforts, promotional material design and generation, and School tours
What qualifies you for this role
  • Required: A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Required: 4-5 years of job-related experience.
  • Preferred: BA with 4-5 years experience in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Grade: 48

Typical Starting Pay: $20.75 to $27.00. The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job‑related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work‑related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
