Job summary

Habitat for Humanity of Durham is seeking a Communications Coordinator to tell HFHD's story and steward the brand across website, social media, press, and publications. You will work closely with the President & CEO to ensure timely, accurate messaging and support donor communications.

The role combines writing, content management, media relations, and event support, with a hybrid schedule requiring in-office presence and occasional evenings/weekends for special events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Two or more years in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading with samples for press releases, web content, and social media.
• Experience with website CMS, social platforms, and email marketing tools.
• Basic design/multimedia skills (Canva, Adobe CC) including photo and video edits.
• Strong organization, detail-orientation, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Office presence with occasional evening and weekend events.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute communications priorities with the CEO to advance HFHD's mission.
• Draft talking points, speeches, op-eds, newsletters, and other messaging.
• Maintain HFHD's brand and voice across all materials.
• Update HFHD website and publish web content, program pages, news, and events.
• Monitor analytics, email campaigns, and report performance.
• Write and distribute press releases and media advisories; manage media relations.
• Support donor relations and communications for development when needed.
• Coordinate with designers, printers, photographers, and vendors.
