Job description

The Communications Associate will be responsible for contributing to the general communications and engagement efforts of Audubon Great Lakes, a regional office of the National Audubon Society. The role involves building awareness of Audubon Great Lakes’ programs, conservation priorities, policy efforts, and community engagement. Working closely with the communications team, the position will support editorial tasks, day-to-day communications, and the creation of communication materials. The candidate will develop content for various channels, including the website and social media, with a focus on digital storytelling.

Compensation:

Salary range based on geo-differentials:

  • $23.00 - $26.00 / hour = National
  • $26.00 - $29.00 / hour = Alaska, CA (excluding San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY

Essential Functions:

  • Implement communication tactics to increase visibility and impact of Audubon’s work.
  • Secure local earned media for initiatives and conservation priorities.
  • Develop and update media lists, pitches, and talking points.
  • Create content calendars for communications and social media.
  • Produce newsletters, emails, flyers, brochures, webinars, and other promotional materials.
  • Track media coverage and digital metrics, and prepare reports.
  • Develop and update website and blog content, collaborating with staff.
  • Manage social media content and assets.
  • Support advocacy communications and events.
  • Use Content Management System for website updates and online materials.
  • Support philanthropy efforts and collaborate across teams.
  • Maintain a culture of safety and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields with 0-2 years of experience or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Photoshop, Canva, media databases, and social media platforms.
  • Interest in wildlife conservation and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to travel and work after hours as needed.
