Oberkotter Foundation – Hearing First seeks an experienced communications professional to join its team as a Communications Associate. This individual is responsible for supporting the organization in its marketing and communications efforts across digital channels and will create engaging content for diverse audiences.

Description

The ideal candidate has a strong background in content development, marketing, and strategic communications, and is committed to Oberkotter Foundation and Hearing First’s mission. Founded by Paul and Louise Oberkotter in 1985, the Foundation aims to help families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing reach their full potential through listening and spoken language. Its initiatives include leadership, grants, and Hearing First, serving families, professionals, and expectant parents nationwide.

The Communications Associate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in digital communications, including website management and analytics tools.

This remote role involves a standard Monday – Friday schedule with occasional in-town meetings and travel. Employees gather quarterly or more frequently, conditions permitting.

Responsibilities
  1. Create copy for press releases, conference presentations, webpages, articles, emails, social media, and paid media in collaboration with team members.
  2. Maintain consistent voice and tone across all communications.
  3. Develop a thorough understanding of Oberkotter Foundation’s language, terminology, and history to ensure accurate and appropriate messaging.
  4. Develop presentation slides for internal and external audiences.
  5. Contribute to content strategy and manage communications calendars, including campaigns and program activities.
  6. Support marketing initiatives through planning, execution, and tracking across web, email, and social media.
  7. Collaborate with team members and external partners on content execution.
  8. Provide strategic guidance for content and campaigns.
  9. Edit, fact-check, and optimize content for SEO.
  10. Coordinate with graphic designers and video teams to develop multimedia assets.
  11. Research industry topics, identify content gaps, and recommend strategic improvements.
  12. Ensure compliance with content policies, including crisis management plans.
  13. Assist with data collection, reporting, and asset management.
  14. Build and maintain relationships with vendors and partners.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience in content creation, marketing, or digital communications.
  • Portfolio of published work or content pieces.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to craft content for various formats, including technical and social media.
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and marketing tools (e.g., Hubspot, Mailchimp).
  • Understanding of social media, email, and digital marketing best practices.
  • Ability to develop and implement digital content strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
  • Proficiency with digital collaboration tools (e.g., Google Drive, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Commitment to continuous learning and industry trends.
