Job summary

Sinclair College is seeking part-time(adjunct) faculty to teach face-to-face for day, evening, and weekend courses at our partner correctional institutions in Ohio. Starting pay is $1,046 per credit hour taught.

The position is open to residents of Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky or those who can work in one of these states. Sinclair Community College restricts part-time employment to approved states for compliance reasons.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in communication required.
  • If master’s in another discipline, 18 graduate credits in communication are required.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to teach face-to-face in prison education setting.
  • Experience with multimedia-based instruction.
  • Background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Prepare and submit syllabi for assigned sections per policies.
  • Employ effective teaching strategies and use instructional technology.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Promote student success through classroom and online efforts.
  • Evaluate and provide timely feedback on student work.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Submit final grade rosters by deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Cannot exceed 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize studentlearning
  • Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi for all assignedsections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, useavailable instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategiesto meet diverse student’s needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote studentsuccess
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promotelearning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to establisheddeadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Cannot exceed maximum of 12 credit hours per semester
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in communication required
    • Applicants whose master’s degree is in another discipline musthave completed at least 18 semester credit hours of graduatecoursework in communication
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience ispreferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning throughinnovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the courseand program level
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills withthe capacity to work successfully in a culturally diverse collegecommunity
  • Must be able to teach face-to-face in a prison educationsetting
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educationaltechnology, including multimedia-based instruction
  • Ability to pass a DRC background check required
