The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a part-time adjunct Sociology faculty member to teach in-person courses at our partner correctional institutions across Ohio.

The position supports day, evening, and weekend classes within the prison education program. Candidates must hold a master's degree in sociology (or a related field with 18 graduate hours in sociology) and demonstrate prior teaching experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to use modern educational

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master's degree in sociology or a master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in the content area is required
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work successfully in a community college environment
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction
  • Must be able to teach face-to-face in a prison education setting
  • Ability to pass a DRC background check required

Responsibilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than the maximum of 12 credit hours per semester
  • Other duties as assigned

This position is open only to applicants who residein Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform workwithin one of these states. Sinclair Community College restrictspart-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, andbenefits compliance requirements.
