Company Overview

FST Technical Services’ Commissioning (Cx) Division is a leading provider of quality assurance in the design, construction, and post-acceptance phases of building projects.

Our focus is on ensuring that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated systems are properly designed, installed, and tested to meet client requirements and design intent.

Position Summary

The commissioning project engineer reports to a team leader and is responsible for the delivery and execution of our professional services tasks for equipment in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Complete office assignments, manage time and expenses, validate in-field installations, prepare field observation reports, conduct functional performance testing, attend meetings and document proceedings, perform on-site and factory witness testing, review submittals, and evaluate design documentation.
  2. Execute target billable hours, manage tasks within allocated time, lead commissioning meetings, assist the construction team in identifying and solving technical issues, and maintain positive client relations on assigned projects.
  3. Support administrative coordination with project engineers and senior engineers regarding staff scheduling, mentor team members on documentation, procedures, and equipment usage, and participate in safety and training programs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in HVACR, mechanical or electrical engineering, construction management, or an Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology or related trade/industry experience in construction, maintenance, or controls.
  • At least 5 years of employment in maintenance, construction, or engineering controls, or 1+ years specifically in the commissioning industry.
  • Over 3 years of experience managing building equipment interconnectivity such as pumps, fans, motors, ventilation systems, chillers, boilers, steam distribution, building automation, electrical distribution, and fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, bid processes, and industry documentation.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Technical proficiency to independently solve complex problems and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
  • Physical ability to lift over 30 pounds, climb ladders, and work in diverse indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications:

  • Involvement in trade associations.
  • Certifications such as EIT, ACP, CEM, or equivalent based on experience.
  • OSHA10 or other workplace safety certifications.
  • Familiarity with building information modeling.

Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000
