Job description

We are supporting a long-established national general contractor that is making a significant investment in its growing Mission Critical / Data Center division.

They are looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to join the team and support major data-center projects across the US.

This is a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who wants the stability and resources of an established contractor, but also wants to join a Mission Critical business that is still growing - giving senior hires the opportunity to influence how projects are delivered, help shape processes and potentially build teams around them.

The role

You will take ownership of commissioning activities across large, technically complex data-center projects, working closely with project leadership, MEP trades, vendors, commissioning agents and the end client.

Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Managing the commissioning process from construction completion through testing, turnover and operational readiness
  • Coordinating mechanical, electrical and controls commissioning activities
  • Working closely with subcontractors, OEMs, vendors and third-party Cx teams
  • Developing and managing commissioning schedules, documentation and readiness plans
  • Supporting L1-L5 commissioning, functional testing and integrated systems testing
  • Tracking deficiencies, punch items and commissioning milestones through closeout
  • Coordinating MEP systems including HVAC/cooling, BMS/EPMS, generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, ATS/STS and associated controls
  • Reviewing commissioning procedures, test scripts, documentation and turnover packages
  • Ensuring commissioning activities remain aligned with overall construction schedules
  • Representing the commissioning function in owner, contractor and project-team meetings
  • Helping establish and improve commissioning standards as the Mission Critical division continues to grow
What they are looking for

Ideally you will have:

  • Strong data-center / mission-critical commissioning experience
  • Experience with a GC, commissioning provider, MEP contractor or data-center owner
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical critical infrastructure
  • Experience coordinating multiple trades, vendors and commissioning stakeholders
  • Exposure to hyperscale or large-scale data-center environments
  • Strong QA/QC, testing, startup and turnover experience
  • Ability to operate effectively in a field-based construction environment
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Willingness to travel to major projects across the US
Why consider it?

This is not simply another position within a mature, heavily layered data-center group.

The wider company has been established for almost 100 years and remains family-owned, while the Mission Critical division is still relatively early in its growth.

That creates a combination of:

  • Long-term company stability
  • A growing national data-center platform
  • Opportunity to influence processes, standards and project delivery
  • Potential to help build and develop teams
  • Strong long-term progression as the division expands
  • Exposure to major hyperscale and mission-critical projects
  • A business that wants experienced hires to make an impact rather than simply fill a seat
