Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to support data center and mission-critical projects across the United States. You will oversee end-to-end commissioning activities and coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and commissioning agents to ensure systems are tested and ready for handover.

The role covers early construction through startup, IST, and turnover, ensuring schedules, quality, and client requirements are met.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in commissioning or construction management (MEP/GC/commissioning firm).
• Experience on data center or mission-critical projects.
• Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary MEP systems and commissioning processes (Level 1–5).

Project focus

We are looking for experienced Commissioning Managers to support data center and mission-critical projects across the United States. With projects in multiple locations, we are keen to speak with candidates nationwide, whether you prefer to work at a single site close to home or are open to travelling between project locations.

You will oversee end-to-end commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and controls systems, working closely with construction teams, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and commissioning agents to ensure systems are tested, validated, and ready for operational handover.

The role will involve managing commissioning from early construction stages through start-up, functional testing, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and final turnover, ensuring project schedules, quality standards, and client requirements are met.

Key skills and Experience required

• 8+ years of commissioning or construction management experience, preferably with an MEP contractor, general contractor, or commissioning firm.
• Experience working on data center, mission-critical, hyperscale, or other complex industrial projects.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary MEP systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and building controls.
• Comprehensive knowledge of commissioning processes, from Level 1 through Level 5, including start-up, functional testing, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Experience developing and managing commissioning plans, testing procedures, schedules, quality control documentation, and project turnover packages.
• Proven ability to coordinate general contractors, subcontractors, equipment vendors, commissioning agents, design teams, and client representatives.
• Experience managing system readiness, installation quality, pre-start-up checks, energisation milestones, and commissioning documentation.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, QA/QC requirements, contractual obligations, and project delivery milestones.
• Ability to manage site resources, coordinate workstreams, identify risks, and resolve commissioning issues to maintain project schedules.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and drive commissioning activities through to completion.
• Experience with commissioning or construction management platforms such as CxAlloy, Procore, or similar is beneficial.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is beneficial, although equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
