Industry: Mission-Critical Construction

Location: Nationwide Travel Across the United States

Career Progression: Opportunities to Develop Within the Data Center Sector

Our client is looking to recruit motivated and technically capable Commissioning Engineers to support the delivery of major data center construction projects across the United States.

This is an excellent opportunity for commissioning professionals with a background in mechanical, electrical, building services, HVAC, controls, or other complex engineering environments to develop their careers within the rapidly growing data center sector.

Previous commissioning experience is essential, but direct data center experience is not necessarily required. Our client is interested in engineers with solid commissioning fundamentals, hands‑on technical experience, and the ambition to apply their skills to mission‑critical infrastructure projects.

With exposure to major construction projects, opportunities to develop specialist technical knowledge, and a competitive benefits package, this is an exciting opportunity to build a long‑term career in one of the fastest‑growing areas of construction.

Candidates must currently reside in the United States.

The Role

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will support commissioning activities across major data center construction projects, helping ensure that mechanical, electrical, and building systems are installed correctly, thoroughly tested, and ready for operational handover.

Working alongside commissioning managers, construction teams, subcontractors, specialist vendors, and other engineers, you will play an important role in delivering complex projects safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

This is atravel‑intensive position across the United States, offering the opportunity to gain exposure to large‑scale projects, work with experienced engineering professionals, and develop specialist expertise in mission‑critical construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support commissioning activities from initial planning and installation verification through functional testing and final handover.
  • Assist with the testing and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, controls, and other building systems.
  • Execute commissioning procedures, test scripts, inspections, and functional performance tests.
  • Review technical drawings, equipment specifications, commissioning documentation, and project requirements.
  • Identify, document, and help resolve technical issues, defects, and commissioning deficiencies.
  • Coordinate with commissioning managers, subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support systems integration and integrated systems testing where required.
  • Monitor commissioning progress and ensure testing activities are completed in line with project schedules.
  • Maintain accurate test records, progress reports, punch lists, and handover documentation.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project specifications, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.
  • Support the successful delivery of projects by maintaining high technical standards and attention to detail.
You Will Ideally Have:
  • Previous experience working as a Commissioning Engineer, Electrical Commissioning Engineer, Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, or in a similar technical role.
  • A minimum level of hands‑on commissioning experience is essential.
  • A background in mechanical, electrical, building services, HVAC, controls, industrial engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience testing, inspecting, commissioning, or validating complex equipment, systems, plant, or building services.
  • An understanding of commissioning procedures, functional testing, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • A willingness to travel extensively to project sites across the United States.
  • Current residence in the United States is mandatory. Applicants based outside the U.S. will not be considered for this opportunity.

Direct data center experience is advantageous but not essential. Candidates with commissioning experience in commercial construction, healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial facilities, manufacturing, power generation, energy, or other technically complex environments are encouraged to apply.

The key requirement is genuine commissioning experience, a strong technical foundation, and the motivation to transfer those skills into the data center industry.

Salary, Benefits & Package

Our client offers a competitive package designed to attract capable commissioning professionals, which may include:

  • Competitive base salary or contract compensation, depending on the position.
  • Potential performance‑related bonus.
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance, where applicable.
  • Travel, accommodation, and project‑related expenses, subject to the package.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options, where applicable.
  • 401(k) retirement plan, potentially with employer matching.
  • Paid time off and company holidays, depending on employment terms.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Exposure to major U.S. data center construction projects and advanced building technologies.
  • Opportunities to build specialist commissioning expertise within the mission‑critical sector.

Specific compensation, benefits, and employment terms will be confirmed during the recruitment process.

Build Your Future in the Data Center Industry

This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who wants to build on their existing commissioning experience while developing specialist knowledge in one of the most exciting areas of modern construction.

You will gain exposure to large‑scale, technically demanding projects, strengthen your experience across critical building systems, and develop the skills needed to progress into senior commissioning or specialist engineering roles.
