Gilder Search Group seeks a Mechanical Commissioning Lead for data center projects in the Phoenix, AZ area. The role oversees the mechanical commissioning process, ensuring standards, quality control, and thorough documentation across multiple projects.

The candidate will serve as a commissioning SME, manage the technical aspects of projects, interface with clients and vendors, and support field troubleshooting with test equipment. Travel up to 50–70% for multiple sites.

Qualifications

• 5 to 10+ years experience in Electrical/Mechanical Commissioning
• Bachelor's/Associates Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering a plus
• Experience with mission critical/data center projects
• Excellent communication skills; writing and client interaction

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple commissioning projects with teams of engineers and PMs
• Ensure adherence to commissioning standards and QC processes
• Develop SOPs and MOPs; maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation
• Prepare and present commissioning reports with deficiencies and recommendations
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors and owners agents
• Verify commissioning results of test reports and assist with field troubleshooting

Education

Bachelor's / Associates Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering a plus

A/E experience in complex facilities or mission critical projects

Experience with IEEE / ASHRAE procedures

Mechanical Commissioning Lead - Data Centers - Phoenix, AZ

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will lead the overall mechanical commissioning process, follow standards set by the organization and oversight of multiple commissioning projects for large data center projects. This candidate will act as a Commissioning Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure that commissioning experts follow commissioning standards, adhere to a thorough quality management / QC process and procedures that validate and document client’s systems. This candidate will also handle any technical commissioning issues for their data center clients.

Responsibilities:

• Lead multiple Commissioning Projects consists of a full team of commissioning engineers and commissioning project managers on a wide range of Data Center Commissioning projects
• Will not have manage staff at the onset ; candidate will be managing the technical aspect of projects and act as a technical resource commissioning teams
• Ensure Commissioning standards are being followed for: Equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures; Development of standard operating procedures (SOP's) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs); Comprehensive Commissioning documentation
• Ensure that the overall Commissioning process is being followed with the highest of standards:
  • Commissioning test procedures and reports
  • Commissioning logs, equipment checklist, and other tools to track commissioning projects
  • Comprehensive reports which include:
    • recommendations for optimizing building operations
    • functional checklists
    • list of deficiencies
    • equipment operation
    • maintenance manuals
• Have the team follow Commissioning Standards:
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to commissioning
  • Integrated system testing; Load Bank Testing; Compilation of all testing procedure results
  • Functional tests for various building MEP systems, such as: fire alarm and control systems, HVAC, Chillers, CRAC units, normal and standby electrical distribution systems, UPS, standby generators, and emergency lighting, etc.
  • System Assembly;
  • Commission plan preparation
  • Follow company QC process and procedures
• Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners agents as needed;
• Execute project assignments; Interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians; Interact with all facets of the company: engineering, design, etc.
• Verification of commissioning results of test reports
• Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed; Field experience in the operation and application of Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, Data loggers, and related system testing equipment

Qualifications:

• 5 to 10 + years experience in the Electrical / Mechanical Commissioning Field
• Bachelor's / Associates Degree as an Electrical Engineer / Mechanical Engineer a plus
• A/E experience working in complex facilities or mission critical projects
• Previous Data Center / Mission Critical experience a must
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction)
• Experience with Level 1-5 commissioning
• Experience managing commissioning teams and developing plans for large scale commissioning projects
• Experience with IEEE / ASHRAE procedures and protocols a plus
• Possess basic knowledge of systems design for various projects
• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project
• Previous experience in the Military / Military veterans in all branches that have experience with Electrical / Mechanical is a huge plus (Navy Nukes- EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, etc.)
• Open to 50 - 70% Travel (not long periods of travel / just many smaller ones to check on multiple projects); UNLESS you are based near a major Data Center build and then your travel is closer to 10-20%
• Must live near a major airport
