Job summary

Clear is seeking experienced Commissioning Engineers and Managers to lead testing, verification, and startup of electrical, mechanical, and BMS within mission-critical data center projects across the USA. You will own end-to-end commissioning lifecycles, develop MOPs, FPTs, and IST scripts, and coordinate with GC/subcontractors to ensure reliability and turnover readiness.

Detailed Job Description

As a Commissioning Engineer or Commissioning Manager supporting mission-critical data center projects across the USA via Clear, you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of end-to-end commissioning lifecycles from pre-functional checks through Integrated Systems Testing (IST). Your day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing design specifications, developing comprehensive Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Functional Performance Tests (FPTs), and coordinating electrical and mechanical testing protocols. You will collaborate closely with general contractors, electrical/mechanical subcontractors, and client engineering teams to identify deficiencies, troubleshoot equipment anomalies, and execute rigorous root-cause analyses. Furthermore, you will manage project schedules, enforce strict safety protocols, and maintain meticulous documentation for final turnover and client sign-off.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute comprehensive commissioning (Cx) processes for mission-critical data center infrastructure across the USA.
• Develop, review, and execute Method of Procedures (MOPs), Functional Performance Tests (FPTs), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) scripts.
• Inspect, test, and verify complex electrical systems (generators, UPS, switchgear, PDUs) and mechanical systems (chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, cooling towers).
• Coordinate seamlessly with general contractors, trade subcontractors, and client stakeholders to resolve installation and operational issues.
• Identify, document, and track equipment deficiencies, issuing detailed punch lists and managing remediation workflows.
• Enforce strict compliance with OSHA safety standards, NFPA codes, and project-specific quality assurance requirements.
• Lead commissioning meetings, provide regular progress reports, and deliver executive-level status updates to project stakeholders.
• Compile and deliver comprehensive final commissioning reports, operations manuals, and as-built documentation packages.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 to 10+ years of professional commissioning experience specializing in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• Proven hands-on expertise with mission-critical electrical distribution systems and HVAC mechanical infrastructure.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards (ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA 70E, CxA guidelines).
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional stakeholder coordination capabilities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and client presentations.
• Mandatory U.S. work authorization with local residency within the United States (no overseas candidates accepted).
• Mandatory physical availability for nationwide travel and on-site deployment across various US locations.

• Professional certifications such as Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Accredited Commissioning Process Manager (ACPM), or Professional Engineer (PE).
