Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent and 7+ years relevant experience.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills.
• Experience with underwriting guidelines and process compliance.
• English literacy, valid driver's license, and travel willingness.

Responsibilities

• Respond and resolve customer service requests promptly for external customers and staff.
• Accept, modify, or reject new submissions and policy changes; review audits and renewals.
• Assist agents with presentations and quotes for prospects or clients.
• Help develop and modify guidelines to achieve desired results.
• Support in updating procedures and exploring new markets.
• Assist in educating agents and clients; gather information for closing presentations.
• Attend all company or departmental meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Commercial Underwriter

What you’ll do:

• Respond and resolve customer service requests in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner for external customers, departmental staff, and other FBL personnel always.
• Accept, modify, or reject new application submissions as well as policy changes, review premium audits, and prepare policy renewals.
• Assist agents in preparing presentations and quotes for prospects or client members.
• Assist in developing and modifying existing guidelines to ensure they produce desired results.
• Assist in making presentations and recommendations for updating procedure guidelines and new markets.
• Be available to support agents in the field with education for agents and client/members and presentations when needed for information gathering and closing presentations.
• Attendance required at all company or departmental meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

What it takes to join our team:

• College degree or equivalent is required plus at least seven years relevant work experience required.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills are required.
• Computer/keyboard skills as appropriate to this position.
• Knowledge of all Farm Bureau inquiry systems, automated rating systems, underwriting manuals, valuation software for buildings and vehicles, and industry specific websites to support underwriting activities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position.
• A valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required due to travel.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.
