A community bank in Lansing, Michigan is seeking a Commercial Loan Officer to develop new business and manage larger or complex commercial lending relationships. This opportunity suits a relationship-focused lender who combines sound credit judgment with proactive business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate commercial lending opportunities through prospecting, referrals, and relationships with business owners and professional advisors.
- Analyze financial statements, cash flow, repayment capacity, and collateral to evaluate creditworthiness.
- Manage commercial loan relationships while supporting portfolio quality and profitability.
- Coordinate timely loan renewals, approvals, and closings.
- Monitor loan and deposit performance and identify emerging credit concerns.
- Address late payments, insurance deficiencies, and outstanding financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate loan documentation and adhere to bank credit policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in community activities to build visibility and referral relationships.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of related lending experience; commercial lending experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, related experience, and training.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow, balance sheets, and collateral.
- Ability to assess credit risk and recommend appropriate credit limits.
- Excellent customer service, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple relationships and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Formal commercial credit training and experience preparing credit presentations.
- Demonstrated loan production and referral development.
- Experience structuring commercial loans and monitoring covenants.
- Familiarity with the Greater Lansing business community.
- Proficiency with banking systems, credit analysis tools, and Microsoft Excel.
