Job description

Leads daily field crews executing precision commercial grounds maintenance and extreme community abatements. $50,000 - $56,000 annualized base plus quarterly safety and equipment bonuses.

Yard Reboot Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity that funds its charitable work by running an excellent landscape company. Paid commercial and residential routes run Monday through Thursday. Friday is community relief day, when the profit from that week turns into a free property rescue for a senior, veteran, or disabled neighbor facing code citations, fire fuel loads, or a yard that has become impassable.

As Commercial Grounds Crew Lead you run the production side of that operation. You take a two- to three-person crew through a dispatched route cluster, hold the quality line on every property, keep the equipment right, and get everybody home safe. You are also the person we send when a rescue property is genuinely rough - chest-high brush, downed limbs, a sidewalk that has not been seen in years.

You will not be babysat and you will not be micromanaged. You will be given good equipment, a clear route, and the authority to make the call in the field. If you have led crews before and you are tired of doing it for a company that does not stand for anything, this is the one.

Why this role matters

Same trade, different scoreboard. The routes you run Monday through Thursday are what makes Friday possible - and on Friday you are the reason a family keeps their house instead of losing it to daily code fines.

Mission impact

Directs heavy hazard cleanups that stop $200-$2,000 per day municipal code fines and protect vulnerable families from displacement.

Schedule

Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. No weekends.

A day in this role
  • 6:45 AM - Shop check-in: trailer securing, blade and fluid check, PPE, and route brief with your crew.
  • 7:30 AM - First commercial property: mow, edge, line-trim, blow down, and walk the site for anything the client will notice before you do.
  • 10:00 AM - Second and third accounts in the same cluster; you set pace and quality while working alongside the crew.
  • 12:00 PM - Lunch and a route adjustment if dispatch has added a stop.
  • 1:00 PM - Afternoon cluster, equipment troubleshooting, and a quality walk-through on each close-out.
  • 3:00 PM - Back to the shop: wash-down, blade sharpening queue, fuel, and tomorrow's load-out.
  • Friday - Lead a hazard abatement rescue: heavy brush clearing, limb removal, debris haul-off, and sidewalk unearthing for a homeowner who cannot do it themselves.
What you will do
  • Supervise 2-3 person production crews across daily Jobber dispatch route clusters.
  • Operate commercial Scag stand-on mowers and Diamond C dump trailers.
  • Direct heavy brush clearing, tree limb removal, and deep sidewalk unearthing on rescue properties.
  • Enforce OSHA-10 job site safety, PPE standards, trailer securing, and blade maintenance.
What you need
  • 3+ years commercial landscaping crew leadership.
  • Proven experience towing and backing commercial utility trailers.
  • High-empathy communicator adept at working with vulnerable residents.
Nice to have
  • OSHA-10 card or willingness to complete it on paid time within 60 days.
  • Experience with stand-on mowers, dump trailers, and commercial two-cycle equipment.
  • Small-engine troubleshooting and blade/deck maintenance skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Prior work with vulnerable residents, code compliance cases, or disaster cleanup.
Tools and equipment we provide
  • Commercial stand-on mowers, professional gas handheld equipment, and dump trailers.
  • Company truck and fuel card for route days.
  • Full PPE allowance including boots, eye and hearing protection, and cooling gear.
  • Company-provided phone with dispatch, photos, and close-outs.
Physical requirements
  • Lift and carry up to 75 lbs; load and unload equipment and green waste throughout the day.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and operate equipment for a full shift on uneven ground.
  • Work outdoors in Texas heat with mandatory paid hydration and shade breaks.
  • Tow and back a commercial utility trailer; valid Texas driver's license and clean record required.
Pay, benefits, and perks
  • Quarterly safety and route margin bonus pools.
  • Consistent 40-hour daylight work weeks with zero weekend requirements.
  • Paid volunteer transformation days and a top-tier PPE allowance.
Where this role leads
  • Months 1-2: learn our route standards, safety protocol, and quality checklist.
  • Months 3-12: own a permanent crew and route book with quarterly safety and margin bonuses.
  • Year 2+: Field Operations Manager - multi-crew oversight, hiring input, and equipment program ownership.
Our hiring process
  • 20-minute phone call about the crews you have led and the equipment you have run.
  • Paid working interview - one real route day with our crew.
  • Driving record and reference check, then an offer with a firm start date.
