We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Technical Trainer specializing in electric transit buses, school buses, and trucks. You’ll bring strong knowledge of electric vehicles and their electrical systems, and you’ll teach it to transit operators, maintenance technicians, and other stakeholders at sites around the country. This is a traveling position, with roughly half your time spent visiting transit agencies, depots, and training facilities to help build lessons and lead instructor‑led sessions.
Your main objective is to deliver hands‑on training, on‑site and virtual, so that participants can safely and efficiently operate and maintain electric trucks and buses.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver Training: Teach in‑person sessions covering the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electric transit buses, emphasizing electrical systems, battery management, propulsion, and charging infrastructure.
- Develop Curriculum: Partner with the Training Manager to create, refresh, and improve manuals, course materials, and other learning resources for beginner and advanced audiences.
- Provide On‑Site Expertise: Offer technical guidance and troubleshooting help during sessions, answering questions and working through real‑world problems with participants.
- Run Live Demonstrations: Show how bus systems, diagnostic tools, and electrical safety procedures work in practice.
- Share Industry Knowledge: Make sure attendees leave with a solid grasp of industry standards, best practices, and new developments in electric transit technology.
- Assess Progress: Use assessments and evaluations to track how well participants are learning, and offer feedback and extra support where needed.
- Build Client Relationships: Develop strong partnerships with customers, make sure they get real value from our training, and provide continued technical support.
- Manage Travel: Plan and organize your own travel for training assignments so you arrive on time and sessions run smoothly.
- Uphold Safety and Compliance: Keep every session in line with safety standards, local regulations, and environmental guidelines, particularly around high‑voltage systems, batteries, and electric propulsion.
- Collaborate with Customer Service: Work alongside customer service teams to create practical, timely, hands‑on product knowledge.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, automotive technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
- Experience: At least 5 years of direct experience with electric transit buses, including electrical systems, propulsion, battery management, and charging. Prior experience in technical training or mentoring is a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of electric vehicle systems, including AC and DC electrical systems, battery management systems, inverters, charging systems, and troubleshooting methods.
- Travel Availability: Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time across the U.S.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to audiences of all experience levels.
- Diagnostic Ability: Skill at identifying and resolving complex electrical problems in transit buses on site.
- Customer Focus: Comfort working with everyone from mechanics to senior leadership and delivering a positive training experience.
- Safety Orientation: A firm commitment to safety and a proactive approach to creating a safe learning environment.
