Job summary

BLT is seeking a dependable Building Engineer - Commercial to support day-to-day operation and maintenance of our Stamford, CT properties. This is a full-time, hands-on role for a mechanically inclined professional who enjoys troubleshooting building systems, performing preventative maintenance, and helping ensure safe, efficient, and reliable building operations.

The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and participates in a rotating on-call schedule approximately

Qualifications

2+ years experience in commercial building maintenance or related trade.
Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Ability to troubleshoot building equipment and perform preventive maintenance independently.
Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) preferred.
Basic knowledge of local, state, and national building and mechanical codes.
Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
Willingness to participate in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies.
Valid driver's license preferred.
Relevant trade licenses or EPA certification are a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and upkeep of commercial building systems and equipment.
Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and BAS components.
Maintain commercial HVAC equipment, including air handlers, fans, motors, VAVs, pumps, and water systems.
Perform preventative maintenance tasks (filters, belts, lubrication, cleaning, inspections).
Assist with BAS, EMS, and Fire/Life Safety systems operation and maintenance.
Respond to tenant service requests involving HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance.
Inspect mechanical rooms, rooftops, common and exterior areas; maintain logs and work orders.
Read blueprints and equipment specs; ensure spaces are clean and safe.
Communicate with supervisors, vendors, tenants, and owners about conditions and work completed.
Participate in rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies.
