Job summary

Building and Land Technology in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a dedicated Building Engineer to join our luxury residential community. This role focuses on operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems to keep the property safe, efficient, and reliable.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, with experience in residential maintenance and mechanical/electrical systems. You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to service requests, and participate in on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on experience maintaining central HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Familiar with water source heat pumps, cooling towers and boiler plants.
• Basic knowledge of local and national mechanical/electrical codes.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematic diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building systems and equipment.
• Respond promptly to service requests, building issues, and emergency maintenance situations.
• Support preventative maintenance programs for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire/life safety, generators, security, access control, BMS, and vertical transportation systems.
• Assist in maintaining facility utilities including gas, electric, sewer, water, phone, and CATV services.
• Conduct routine inspections of building systems, equipment, and common areas to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate documentation, inspection records, and maintenance reports.
• Assist with inventory control and organization of maintenance parts and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, company standards, and safety procedures.
• Support the upkeep and appearance of both interior and exterior property conditions.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours emergency coverage.
• Communicate effectively with residents, vendors, supervisors, and team members regarding maintenance issues and completed work.

This position is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems and equipment to ensure the property operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.

The ideal candidate is hands‑on, mechanically inclined, and experienced in residential building maintenance and mechanical/electrical systems.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements of the Building Engineer:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb ladders and work in mechanical spaces
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical maintenance tasks for extended periods
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Compensation & Benefits:
