Job summary

City of Memphis is seeking a Building Code Inspector to inspect exterior and interior of vacant, occupied, and industrial buildings for compliance with Anti-Neglect Ordinances. You will interpret requirements, recommend corrective actions, and review rehabilitation plans prepared by licensed architects.

This role involves quarterly follow-ups and driving to various sites to inspect commercial properties. You will issue violation notices, appear in court when required, and maintain detailed

Qualifications

• Written and verbal communication with staff, developers, contractors, architects and city officials.

Responsibilities

• Inspect exterior and interior of vacant, occupied and industrial buildings for compliance with Anti-Neglect Ordinances.
• Interprets ordinance requirements and recommends corrective action.
• Inform owners of required repairs to comply with ordinances.
• Review rehabilitation plans prepared by licensed architects and approve them when compliant.
• Conduct quarterly follow-up inspections to monitor rehabilitation status.
• Drive to site locations to conduct inspections of commercial and industrial buildings.
• Issue summons/citations related to enforcement of the ordinance; appear in court when needed.
• Maintain inspection logs and related reports in a computerized system.
• Examine plans to ensure compliance with building codes and verify corrections are made.
