Brief Position Overview: The GFC Writing & Languages Department maintains a pool of non-tenure-track applicants for consideration as potential instructors in writing courses. These instructors teach online asynchronous, hy-flex, blended, and/or face-to-face College Writing I courses as needed.

General Statement: Adjunct instructors are hired based on the needs of the institution, which are evaluated every semester. At present, Great Falls College invites interested parties to apply to teach Freshman Composition ( WRIT 101: College Writing 1)

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach subject matter content to traditional, non-traditional, and dual-enrollment students;
  • Teach courses in a variety of modalities according to institutional need;
  • Maintain current disciplinary knowledge;
  • Report grades, academic alerts, and academic integrity violations, and student outcomes assessment;
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community;
  • Meet reporting and record keeping requirements in accordance with the college calendar;
  • Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching of writing; and
  • Work with students and colleagues of varied backgrounds.

  • Master’s degree including 9 credits in English or closely related field

*Note: A Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing typically includes the credits necessary to teach College Writing I

  • Successful experience teaching college composition

Qualifying experience may include teaching writing-intensive courses, including creative writing, business and professional writing, technical writing, and journalism, along with service in a college writing center or substantive instructional work as a graduate teaching assistant.

  • Demonstrated interest in writing pedagogy;
  • Successful experience working with dual credit high school students and nontraditional students;
  • Successful experience teaching face-to-face and online;
  • Successful experience teaching at a two-year college.

Great Falls College MSU is a comprehensive two-year college located on a beautiful 20-acre campus and serves approximately 2000 students a year, including students taking courses and programs online. It is one of four units of Montana State University and MSU’s only “stand-alone” two-year college. An extensive renovation and expansion project in 2010 added three state-of-the-art science labs, an expansive library and resource center, and an Industrial Trades building. An infant through preschool learning center was built in 2012 to provide early learning opportunities for children of students and the community. Renovations include a one-stop Student Central area, remodeled bookstore, a community conference center, and additional space for the Lifelong Learning & Workforce Development Departments and College Communications, Marketing & Development. MSU – Northern’s Great Falls satellite campus is located at Great Falls College MSU , offering 4-year and graduate degrees. The College has a reputation for high-quality educational programming delivered with a student-centered philosophy. The College constantly evaluates its educational offerings to provide challenging, high-demand programs leading to transfer Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, and terminal Associate of Applied Science degrees. One-year Certificates and professional certifications are also offered. As a comprehensive two-year college, credit and non-credit community enrichment, customized training and contract courses are provided. Day, evening, weekend, and online classes are offered.
