Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking a part-time Karate Instructor to design and deliver a safe, engaging introductory karate course for college students. The 1-credit, pass/fail class focuses on fundamental techniques, conditioning, etiquette, and personal development within a supportive campus setting.

The instructor will tailor instruction to varied fitness levels, emphasize safety and proper form, and assess students on participation, effort, and understanding of core karate

Qualifications

• Demonstrated karate training and experience.
• Black belt or equivalent documented martial arts experience.
• Ability to safely teach fundamental karate techniques to beginning-level college students.
• Knowledge of martial arts training, conditioning, injury-prevention, and safety practices.
• Effective verbal communication, demonstration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with a wide range of student abilities and athletic backgrounds.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification within college timelines.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct regularly scheduled karate classes in line with the academic calendar.
• Teach fundamental karate techniques, stances, movement, and introductory kata.
• Introduce martial arts terminology, etiquette, traditions, and principles.
• Incorporate warm-up, conditioning, balance, and cool-down activities.
• Demonstrate techniques clearly and provide individual and group instruction.
• Emphasize technique, control, and safe training practices at all times.
• Modify activities to accommodate different student abilities and fitness levels.
