Job summary

Bellwether Community Credit Union seeks a Collections Manager to lead the collections team and oversee daily delinquency activities across the loan portfolio. You will supervise staff, guide complex cases, ensure professional, compliant member contact, and report to leadership on delinquencies and recoveries.

You’ll coordinate with attorneys and agencies, manage foreclosures and charge-offs, and maintain accurate documentation while upholding Credit Union values and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in loan servicing, collections, credit administration, or a related area.
• At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Experience in a credit union or financial institution is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of consumer loan collections and applicable collection laws and regulations.
• Experience with bankruptcy, repossession, foreclosure, credit reporting, and related processes is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with members facing financial challenges.
• Excellent judgment, organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Intermediate mathematical skills, including decimals, percentages, fractions, and related calculations.
• A high school diploma plus additional post-secondary coursework or equivalent experience and knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Collections team.
• Supervise, coach, train, schedule, and support employees.
• Provide guidance on complex and sensitive collection situations and escalated member calls.
• Evaluate processes and recommend improvements to strengthen results and member experience.
• Manage delinquency and collection activities across the loan portfolio.
• Oversee daily delinquency queues and ensure proper assignment of accounts.
• Communicate with members and co-makers regarding past-due loans.
• Coordinate with outside attorneys and collection agencies as appropriate.
• Coordinate loan modifications, extensions, and file maintenance.
• Oversee bankruptcy accounts, review files, attend hearings, and coordinate with trustees.
• Manage repossession and disposition of collateral and required reporting.
• Coordinate foreclosure activities and bid strategies with attorneys.
• Recommend consumer and commercial loan charge-offs and manage monthly charge-offs.
• Ensure compliance with policies, laws, and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor credit reporting for accuracy and issue regulatory notices for delinquent mortgages.
