Job summary

St. Andrew’s School seeks a collaborative accompanist to design the liturgical soundscape and support the musical growth of its students. The role includes accompanying the choir, conducting choral sectionals, and preparing accompaniments for chapel and performances.

During the Musical Theatre season, you will lead musical rehearsals, rehearse the pit orchestra, and conduct performances, while mentoring student musicians in an educational setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience in conducting choral sectionals.
  • Strong sight-reading capabilities for hymnals and choral open score.
  • Ability to mentor student musicians in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany the choir during choral classes on a rotating schedule (2-3 times per week).
  • Conduct sectionals for choral rehearsals and work with voice and instrumental students for chapel and performances.
  • Learn choral accompaniments and vocal parts off campus; create accompaniment recordings for student practice as needed.
  • Direct musical rehearsals daily during the Musical Theatre season (4:00 PM – 5:30 PM).
  • Rehearse pit orchestra leading up to productions and conduct during performances.
  • Prepare all scores, accompaniments, and parts prior to rehearsals.

Position Summary

St. Andrew’s School seeks a collaborative accompanist to fill a pivotal role responsible for designing the liturgical soundscape of the school and supporting the musical growth of our students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Choral Accompaniment & Education
  • Accompany the choir during choral classes on a rotating schedule (2-3 times per week).
  • Conduct sectionals for choral rehearsals and work individually with voice and instrumental students to prepare for chapel and performances.
  • Learn all choral accompaniments and vocal parts off campus; create accompaniment recordings for student practice as needed.
Musical Theater (Seasonal: November – February)
  • Work closely with the Musical and Theater Director throughout the season. Direct musical rehearsals daily from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.
  • Rehearse the pit orchestra during the two weeks leading up to the production and conduct them during the performance.
  • Accompany the musical production during "Tech Week" and the performance weekend. Prepare all musical theater scores, accompaniments, and parts prior to rehearsals.
Job Requirements
  • Experience in conducting choral sectionals.
  • Strong sight-reading capabilities required, specifically regarding hymnals and choral open score.
  • A strong commitment to working in an educational setting with the ability to mentor, guide, and patiently develop the skills of student musicians.
