Job summary

MacLean-Fogg is hiring a Cold Heading Operator Trainee at our Chesterfield, MI facility. You will learn cold heading operations while supporting safe, efficient production through equipment operation, inspection, changeovers, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting. Previous manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.

Location: Chesterfield, MI. Schedule begins on 1st Shift, with a transition to 2nd Shift after training. Pay: $18-$20/hour with a shift differential for 2nd Shift.

Qualifications

• Basic math skills for counting and recording production and scrap.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn machine operation, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions, standard operating procedures, and manufacturer manuals.

Responsibilities

• Learn cold heading machine operation, adjustments, proper equipment care, standard work, and safe operating practices under experienced guidance.
• Perform routine equipment lubrication, oil changes, and minor repairs; assist with more complex repairs as needed.
• Support changeovers by gathering tools, assisting with setup and teardown, loading machines, welding wire, and preparing equipment for production.
• Complete purging, washdowns, and cleaning per 5S standards, including painting and labeling equipment when required.
• Inspect parts and perform checks to verify quality and identify labeling issues; document results per procedure.
• Record production and downtime data using established systems.
• Maintain clean, safe machines and work areas following safety and environmental rules.
• Report malfunctions or quality issues promptly and support continuous improvement.
