Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Cognitive Performance Specialist to support the POTFF program across multiple U.S. locations.

The role focuses on evidence-based interventions to boost cognitive performance, mental readiness, and behavioral skills for SOF personnel in high-stress environments. Responsibilities include leading a high-performance team, delivering education and training, and collaborating with HR/contract teams to ensure contract compliance and program improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or relevant experience.
• Minimum of two years related experience.
• Current LCSW or LMSW licensed in state of practice.
• Master’s degree in human performance, kinesiology, exercise science, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, sport sciences, performance psychology, psychology, or a mental health discipline with a specialization in performance psychology.
• Certification of training for HRV through BCIA or related BCIA certification, or at least one year of HRV training experience in a high-performance setting.
• Willing to obtain BCIA HRV certificate within one year of hire if not already obtained.
• Three+ years post-graduate experience as a cognitive performance practitioner or sport psychologist.
• Experience with military members, athletes, or tactical populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of employees through cultivation of a high performance team.
• Ensure adequate staff coverage for assigned program area.
• Serve as subject matter expert for identified area of program knowledge.
• Ensure assigned team meets contract and SLA requirements.
• Work with contract management to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies.
• Attend client and stakeholder meetings as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Use evidence-based literature to train SOF personnel on cognitive, mental, behavioral, and performance strategies.
• Support understanding, retention, and performance maintenance through training and interventions.
• Advise POTFF Program Manager or Government Lead on cognitive performance matters.
• Provide education on cognitive performance factors related to exercise and sport psychology.
• Deliver education on executive function, sleep, self-regulation, attention, memory, skill acquisition, goal setting, visualization, and planning.
• Serve as SME for labor category supporting the well-being of Service Members.
• Document services in HPDMS or other required systems.
