Job summary

ChristianaCare seeks an experienced Coding Education and Data Management leader to oversee coding data quality and coder education initiatives within the Health Information Management Services (HIMS) department. You will supervise staff, monitor audits, and support regulatory compliance to improve coding accuracy and reimbursement outcomes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in HIM or healthcare related field is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in HIM or healthcare related field preferred.
• One or two years of leadership experience required.
• Successful completion of CCHS Leadership classes within 12 months of hire/promotion.
• Five years coding education experience in acute care healthcare environment is required.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD and CPT coding nomenclature, UHDDS and general coding principles.
• Experience with Project Management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily supervision and oversight of coding data accuracy and coder education functions across inpatient and outpatient hospital coding and abstracting activities.
• Monitors coding accuracy, productivity, staffing levels, schedules, and workload distribution to meet month-end close goals.
• Performs record reviews related to pre-bill edit resolution, internal coding audits, or audit requests.
• Uses reporting tools to perform audits, monitor trends, and support process improvements.
• Coordinates with Patient Financial Services to support timely resolution of accounts needing coding review.
