Job summary

Office of Public Response in Charlotte, NC seeks a Code Enforcement Inspector to conduct nuisance, housing and zoning inspections and to participate in community meetings.

You will serve as a neighborhood liaison, notify owners of violations, testify at hearings, and help connect Housing & Neighborhood Services functions while pursuing certification within three years.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with certification due within three years of employment.
  • Must obtain State Building Inspection Certification within three years.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use a computer to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain City driving permit.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of housing, nuisance, and zoning properties to ensure compliance with city ordinances.
  • Attend community meetings to provide updates on enforcement work.
  • Act as neighborhood liaison for code enforcement issues.
  • Notify property owners and tenants of violations and take steps to ensure compliance.
  • Testify at hearings such as Housing Appeals Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Environmental Court.
  • Collaborate with Service Area teams to connect Housing & Neighborhood Services functions.
