Job summary

City of High Point is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to interpret and enforce local codes, conduct inspections, and collaborate with departments. The role involves outdoor fieldwork across housing, nuisance, and zoning areas.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, OSHA knowledge, a valid NC driver’s license, and the ability to read codes and site plans. Strong judgment and math skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in code enforcement desirable.
  • Understanding of OSHA and safety regulations.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read local codes, manuals, and site plans.
  • Strong reasoning, judgment, and math skills.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Capacity to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and enforce local codes and ordinances.
  • Receive and investigate citizen complaints.
  • Engage the community through proactive code enforcement.
  • Perform field inspections and inspect developments for compliance prior to issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Conduct inspections of housing, nuisance, junked vehicles, and zoning violations.
  • Issue notices of violations per statutes.
  • Take corrective action to secure voluntary compliance.
  • Issue civil penalties for violations not corrected.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure enforcement.
  • Maintain daily records in Accela database.
  • Ensure work complies with OSHA and city safety policies.
