Job summary

The Town of Huntersville is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to interpret, apply and enforce zoning and nuisance ordinances. You will investigate citizen complaints, prepare paperwork, and communicate with owners to bring violations into compliance.

The role requires knowledge of related codes, the ability to prepare factual reports, and effective written and oral communication. Must have a high school diploma or GED and 1–2 years of experience, with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years experience in code enforcement or related field.
• Ability to interpret and enforce zoning and nuisance ordinances.
• Driver's license valid in North Carolina or state-equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Enforces zoning, nuisance and related ordinances.
• Receives and investigates citizen complaints.
• Researches ownership information and prepares compliance paperwork.
• Issues fines and assists with processing liens for unpaid fines.
• Communicates with business owners and associations regarding violations.
• Maintains forms, databases and records.
• Removes illegal signs.
• May work weekends as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
