Job summary

The Village of Orland Park’s Police Department seeks a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce municipal codes, zoning, property maintenance, and environmental ordinances. The role includes inspecting rental units and commercial occupancies, promoting voluntary compliance, and pursuing formal enforcement when needed.

Qualifications

• Two years of college coursework in construction technology, criminal justice, geography, planning, or related field.
• Valid Class D Driver's License.
• Acquisition of ICC Property Maintenance Certification and ICC Residential Housing Inspector within six months of hire.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to prepare case files, photos, and reports; knowledge of codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints and conduct field inspections to verify violations.
• Prepare Notices of Violation, issue warnings, and adjudicate court tickets.
• Coordinate multi-department code enforcement and maintain records.
• Attend adjudication hearings and court proceedings as needed.
• Track expenses, issue invoices, and coordinate property liens when applicable.
