Job summary

The City of Oak Park is seeking a Code Assistance Officer to enforce City codes and inspect rental properties for compliance with the International Property Maintenance Code. The role includes handling inquiries, issuing permits, preparing documentation, and presenting evidence in court as needed.

Duties also cover investigating complaints, issuing citations when appropriate, and providing clerical support to the Building Division.

Qualifications

• Experience in enforcing codes and ordinances and preparing reports for court actions.
• Knowledge of the International Property Maintenance Code and related city ordinances.
• Ability to assemble data and maintain records and correspondence.
• Proficient in MS Word/Excel and BS&A software.

Responsibilities

• Investigates complaints about litter, blight, signs, zoning, and other code issues.
• Issues violations and follows up to ensure compliance.
• Conducts rental inspections to verify code compliance.
• Documents findings in written reports suitable for court use.
• Testifies in court when required.
