Job summary

The Code Compliance Officer for the City of Montrose enforces municipal codes and zoning regulations, coordinating inspections and abatements, and issuing citations where needed. The role involves interacting with residents and city staff, maintaining records, and preparing evidence for Municipal Court proceedings.

The officer will also handle subpoenas, parking enforcement, and liaise with the city attorney for court actions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, two years college, two years code enforcement experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of city, county, state and federal laws, codes and ordinances pertaining to land use, zoning, health, public safety, animal regulations, fire, traffic, and public nuisance.
• Must be proficient in the use of desktop computer including MS Office products, departmental software and the Internet.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process complaints of violations; gather information and evidence; conduct inspections to obtain compliance with code requirements.
• Coordinate and schedule contracted weed/junk abatements.
• Answer inquiries from the public related to compliance with zoning regulations; respond to citizen complaints of potential code violations.
• Investigate and determine existence and type of zoning, housing, signage, health, noise, public safety, or nuisance violations.
• Recommend corrective actions; determine timeframes for compliance; issue notices of violations and citations.
