Job summary

The City of South Salt Lake is seeking an Ordinance Enforcement Officer to regulate municipal codes and safeguard public health and safety. You will inspect properties, respond to complaints, document violations and coordinate with police, fire and other departments.

Court-related work and abatements may be required. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED with two years of related experience and the ability to obtain UOCA certification within a year.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years of related experience required.
• Must obtain Utah Ordinance Compliance Association (UOCA) certification within one year of start date.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license or obtain one prior to employment; pepper spray certification required.

Responsibilities

• Patrols, inspects and takes action to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances and regulations.
• Patrols city to identify code violations at residential, business and institutional properties.
• Responds to complaints of potential code violations.
• Conducts field investigations and premise inspections to identify and document violations.
• Makes findings, gathers evidence and reports violations of hazardous conditions, safety, sanitation and health issues.
• Educates property owners and tenants regarding code requirements in person, by phone, email, and mail.
• Issues warnings, correction notices and citations to ensure compliance.
• Coordinates with police, fire, and community development, and with health department when needed.
• Maintains case logs and records; prepares documentation for court proceedings.
