Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience or Texas Department of State Health Services Registered Code Enforcement Officer required.
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces ordinances by notifying of non-conformance or by issuing citations at inspection sites.
  • Inspects sites to enforce ordinances concerning high grass and weeds, unsightly conditions, junk and abandoned vehicles, fences, trees and shrubs and other property maintenance issues.
  • Responds to complaints of potential code violations and conducts field investigations; gathers evidence; takes photos; questions complainants and witnesses; compares facts to code requirements and makes findings, notices or citations.
  • Drafts and distributes correspondence and reports relating to code enforcement issues; maintains logs and records; coordinates with other departments and agencies.
  • Prepares reports and coordinates with Dallas County, property owners and contractors; may testify in court.
