Job summary

Apogee Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Chemical Plant Operator to safely run coating manufacturing processes. The role involves monitoring reactors, adjusting controls, taking samples, and ensuring product quality while maintaining logs and equipment conditions.

Strong math and measurement skills, along with mechanical aptitude and basic computer software proficiency, are essential. The position requires the ability to work with PPE in a manufacturing setting and to collaborate with team members.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in manufacturing preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient mathematical and measurement abilities.
• Ability to use related computer software.

Responsibilities

• Operates and controls equipment units or system that processes chemical substances into specified products, according to knowledge of operating procedures and tests.
• Reads plant specifications to ascertain product, ingredients, and prescribed modifications of plant procedures.
• Starts feed of materials through equipment units, regulates feed, and initiates automatic feed as required.
• Sets up and adjusts indicating and controlling devices to monitor and control process conditions.
• Observes gauges, signals, and instruments; regulates temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam and chemicals.
• Draws samples and performs standard tests to verify reaction progress and conformance with standards.
• Observes product color/consistency and correlates with test results to adjust process.
• Maintains log of gauge readings, shift production, and equipment malfunctions.
• May supervise other workers and inspect equipment for hazards.
