Job summary

Volunteers of America is seeking a Teacher Assistant II for Early Head Start South Bay in Los Angeles. The role supports two‑to‑three year olds with structured activities, collaboration with a Co‑Teacher, and family involvement to foster social development.

The position emphasizes on-site work, safety, and adherence to Head Start standards. Qualifications include infant/toddler coursework and bilingual abilities; 20‑hour weekly sessions are typical with competitive VOALA benefits.

Qualifications

• Must pass fingerprint clearance and background checks.
• Automobile access with adequate insurance or reliable transportation.
• TB clearance within 6 months; annual influenza vaccination; pertussis and measles immunization.
• Health screening required at time of employment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move quickly in a busy environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide an environment with varied activities to support social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
• Plan curriculum for morning and afternoon classes (double sessions) and engage families.
• Integrate Head Start services into learning: parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health.
• Observe, screen and assess developmental levels; set goals aligned with each child’s needs.
• Maintain children’s records and submit monthly paperwork on time.
• Create a learning environment reflecting diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
