Job summary

Union Special, LLC is seeking a skilled Vertical Machine Center Setup and Operator to join our production team in Huntley, IL. You will prepare VMCs, set up tooling, fixtures, and materials, and verify setups against blueprints.

You will operate and monitor machines, perform in-process inspections with calipers and micrometers, and document maintenance and adjustments. The role requires attention to detail, safety compliance, and teamwork in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of VMC/CNC setup and operation experience.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T symbols.
• Knowledge of G-code programming.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

• Prepare VMC machines by selecting tools, fixtures, and materials.
• Input and adjust machine parameters based on specs and blueprints.
• Conduct first-article inspections to verify production requirements.
• Operate VMC machines to meet quality and productivity standards.
• Monitor machine functionality and identify issues.
• Perform in-process inspections using calipers and micrometers.
• Conduct routine maintenance to optimize machine performance.
• Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, tool wear, and programming errors.
• Maintain detailed records of setups, adjustments, and maintenance activities.
• Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality and accuracy standards.
• Perform rework or touch-ups as needed.
• Coordinate machining schedules with production teams; follow PPE and OSHA protocols.
