Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense & space OEMs / Primes & Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts, machined from standard and exotic metals. Working at Primus offers the opportunity to operate machines from Haas, DMU Mori, Mazak, Pacer, Mori-Seki, and Okuma.

Shift Details: 2nd shift (M-F 3:30pm - 2:30am), flexible full-time (40+ hours/week) or part-time (24-30 hours/week)

Job Purpose

The CNC Set Up Machinist supports manufacturing operations by ensuring compliance with the company’s Quality System and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Set up CNC Mills and/or Lathes
2. Verify proper router and drawing revision
3. Review program specifications for setup operations and finished product dimensions
4. Establish reliable setups and prepare instructions for operators
5. Meet cycle times and production expectations daily
6. Maintain scrap rate below 2%
7. Validate part quality through IPIC chart completion and verification
8. Ensure tooling is adequate and organized
9. Maintain clean work areas following 5S principles
10. Collaborate with programming and operations teams
11. Support a culture of employee engagement and team success

Minimum Requirements

1. Ability to set up CNC Mills and/or Lathes; proficiency in both is preferred
2. Minimum 3 years of experience as a CNC setup machinist
3. Experience with 3-axis Mastercam programming is a plus
4. Knowledge of GD&T, print reading, and mathematics
5. Tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, etc.
6. Team-oriented attitude
7. Ability to obtain secret security clearance is highly desirable
