Job summary

Gerhardt Gear Co. Inc. in California is seeking a CNC Lathe and/or Mill Set Up specialist to support high-precision gear components for aerospace, defense, and energy sectors.

This full-time, 4-day, 40-hour week role requires setting up 2–5 axis machines, maintaining tight tolerances, and performing quick changeovers and cycle-time-driven production. English fluency is preferred; Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a JOB SHOP environment setting up Lathes and/or Mills.
• Must be proficient in machining cuck and vise jaws to guarantee run out and perpendicularity within .001 between operations.
• Full knowledge of tool and coordinate setting. Mounting and indicating tools and parts quickly and accurately unattended.
• Basic programming skills of machine canned cycles and understanding of the machining program for jaw cutting programs, troubleshooting on FANUC and Haas controls.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced job shop maintaining high quality with tolerances of +/- .0005" daily.
• Must be capable of lifting 30 lb. and standing for the shift.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus but not necessary.
• Full knowledge of measuring tools required.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC lathes and/or mills for production runs (2–5 axis).
• Create jaw cutting programs and troubleshoot on FANUC and Haas controls.
• Maintain runout and perpendicularity within tight tolerances across operations.
• Work in a fast-paced job shop with minimal supervision to meet cycle times.
• Produce high-quality parts and ensure accurate measurement and documentation.

Available Positions

CNC Lathe and/or Mill Set Up position.

This is a direct hire position with no employment agency involvement.

Candidate will be tasked with setting up CNC lathes and/or mills, 2, 3, 4 and 5 axis.

Full-time position, 4-day, 40 hrs. weekly scheduled 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Mon. – Thu.

Overtime will be available as required.

Position Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience working in a JOB SHOP environment setting up Lathes and/or Mills.
• Must be proficient in the machining of cuck and vise jaws to guarantee run out and perpendicularity within .001 between machining operations.
• Full knowledge of tool and coordinate setting. Mounting and indicating tools and parts quickly and accurately unattended.
• Basic programming skills of machine canned cycles and understanding of the machining program are necessary to create jaw cutting programs, and trouble shoot on FANUC and Haas controls.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced job shop environment maintaining a very high-quality level of parts with tolerances of +/-.0005" daily.
• Must be capable but not limited to lifting 30 lb., if necessary, throughout the working shift while on the job and capable of standing for entire working shift while on the job.

• Full knowledge of measuring tools required.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to complete set up and produce parts according to cycle time.
