Job Title: CNC Setup/Operator

Job Description

The CNC Setup/Operator produces precision components by setting up and running CNC and manual equipment to specification while supporting efficient, repeatable production. This role focuses on accurate machine setup, basic programming, quality-focused inspection, and continuous attention to process reliability and efficiency throughout each production run.

Shift: 3:15PM-1:45AM - Mon-Thu

Pay: 24-40/hr based on experience (Set up level preferred)

Responsibilities
  • Set up CNC machines, including installing and adjusting fixtures, tooling, and workholding to meet job specifications.
  • Run CNC lathes and CNC mills to produce precision components according to blueprints, GD&T, and quality requirements.
  • Perform basic G and M code programming and edits at the machine as needed to support production.
  • Utilize Mastercam programming when required to create or modify CNC programs (preferred).
  • Verify CNC programs, tooling, and fixtures prior to production runs to ensure safe and accurate operation.
  • Partner with Quality to obtain first-piece approval and formally start production runs.
  • Evaluate alternate setups and machining methods to improve efficiency, reduce cycle time, and enhance repeatability.
  • Use precision measurement tools such as calipers, ID/OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales to verify part dimensions.
  • Inspect parts throughout the run to confirm compliance with blueprints, GD&T callouts, and internal quality standards.
  • Monitor machine performance during production to identify issues such as worn tools, abnormal sounds, or dimensional drift.
  • Make controlled offsets and adjustments at planned intervals to keep parts within specified tolerances.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate production and quality records as required.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC and manual machines to support reliability and uptime.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area, ensuring equipment and tooling are ready for the next job.
  • Communicate status updates, issues, and recommendations to supervisors, peers, and Quality to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Transition smoothly between jobs and changeovers, confirming prints, inspection expectations, and priorities at the start of each run.
  • Support occasional overtime to help meet customer deadlines when production demand increases.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience with CNC machining, including setup and operation of CNC lathes and CNC mills.
  • Hands‑on experience with manual machining equipment to support production and secondary operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and its application to part inspection and machining.
  • Strong quality inspection skills with the ability to verify parts against prints and specifications.
  • Proficiency using precision measurement tools such as calipers, ID/OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales.
  • Experience performing CNC setup, including tooling selection, fixturing, and work offsets.
  • Ability to perform basic G and M code programming and program edits at the machine.
  • Demonstrated capability to run CNC equipment safely while maintaining tight tolerances.
  • Experience in metal fabrication or metal stamping environments supporting precision component production.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Mastercam programming to create or modify CNC programs (preferred).
  • Previous work with metal fabrication processes and metal stamping operations.
  • Comfort coordinating with Quality teams for first‑piece approvals and in‑process inspections.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend alternate setups and machining methods to improve efficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple jobs, changeovers, and priorities on the shop floor.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to documenting inspection results and production data.
  • Willingness to support occasional overtime to meet production and customer requirements.

You will coordinate quick check‑ins with Quality throughout the shift, communicate job status to keep work flowing, and maintain an organized, production‑ready work area. The schedule follows a regular shift with occasional overtime when demand increases to meet customer deadlines. Appropriate industrial work attire and adherence to standard safety practices are expected in the shop environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $75000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
