Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to join our Elgin, IL team. This role involves programming, setting up, and operating Haas CNC milling machines to produce custom parts and prototypes in a plastics/injection molding environment.

You will read blueprints, optimize processes, and collaborate with maintenance and production teams to improve efficiency and quality. First shift, full-time, onsite in Elgin.

Qualifications

  • Experience programming CNC milling machines using CNC programming software.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machine setup, operation, and programming.
  • Ability to independently program, set up, and run milling applications.
  • Experience with Haas CNC equipment or similar machining centers.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Mastercam programming software.

Responsibilities

  • Program Haas CNC milling machines to manufacture custom parts and prototypes.
  • Set up and operate CNC equipment for production and short-run projects.
  • Perform machine changeovers, verify first-piece quality, and make adjustments to maintain specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using SolidWorks 2026 and/or Mastercam 2020.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and equipment issues to minimize downtime.

What You'll Do

As a CNC Programmer & Operator, you'll be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling equipment while ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and quality throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Haas CNC milling machines to manufacture custom parts and prototypes
  • Set up and operate CNC equipment for production and short-run projects
  • Perform machine changeovers, verify first-piece quality, and make adjustments to maintain specifications
  • Prepare and stage materials required for machining operations
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using SolidWorks 2026 and/or Mastercam 2020
  • Utilize manual machining equipment for minor die work, modifications, and support tasks
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and equipment issues to minimize downtime
  • Assist with preventative maintenance activities on machinery and equipment
  • Support inspections and quality checks to ensure parts meet customer and engineering requirements
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams on process improvements and troubleshooting efforts
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all company standards
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Experience programming CNC milling machines using CNC programming software
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machine setup, operation, and programming
  • Ability to independently program, set up, and run milling applications
  • Experience with Haas CNC equipment or similar machining centers
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Mastercam programming software
  • Understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds, speeds, and process optimization
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues on CNC equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Ability to manage multiple jobs while maintaining accuracy and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
  • Approximately 5+ years of CNC programming, setup, and operation experience
  • Experience in plastics machining, prototype machining, or injection molding environments
  • Familiarity with manual machining equipment and minor die repair work
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices
  • Exposure to hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC systems, and PLC troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting quality inspection processes within manufacturing
  • Strong problem-solving skills and continuous improvement mindset

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Elgin, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $83200.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
