Summary:

The CNC Programmer position is responsible for helping deliver profitable growth by completing machining functions accurately, efficiently, and safely. A person in this role will produce quality machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating manual and computer numerical control (CNC) machines. They will also be responsible for maintaining the equipment and keeping supplies in good working order. Primary responsibilities also include creating designs and developing Gibbs programs with SolidWorks, as well as programming and setting up all manual and CNC machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex series of progressive machine operations to meet precise and close tolerance and finish requirements.
  • Program all company manual and CNC machines as needed.
  • Develop and install Gibbs programs with SolidWorks.
  • Determine and select, modify or recommend tooling.
  • Optimizing machine processes, set-up and operate all manual and CNC Machines to produce parts accurately and efficiently.
  • Manually cycle machine through sequences. Correct deviations, adjust machine speeds and feeds, and calibrate and change cutters in order to machine parts according to specifications.
  • Understand complex machine functions and effects on machined materials.
  • Diagnose operating difficulties. Troubleshoot, repair and correct basic machine issues, tooling, or replacement parts.
  • Review set up sheets and specifications to determine setup procedure, machine sequence and dimensions.
  • Interpret engineering drawings. Identify and correct errors or recommend potential improvements in the drawings to engineers and/or management.
  • Complete first piece inspection and use a variety of precision measuring and inspection devices to ensure parts conform to specifications.
  • Maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Work with and train apprentices or other machinists/operators as needed and requested.
  • Operate a forklift or crane when necessary.
  • Follow company procedures to complete assignments. Complete and maintain required records.
  • Communicate concerns to manager timely. Participate in solution implementation as appropriate.
  • Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement culture, including Lean initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area.
  • Work effectively as a team member to contribute to a positive workplace.
  • Demonstrate and support company values.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • 7 - 10 years of Machining experience
  • 3 - 5 years of experience with CAM.
  • Prior 5 axis machining experience
  • Live Tooling experience
  • Completion of a state apprenticeship with journeyman card or equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • Ability to program, and set-up and operate various CNC machines simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with types of controls such as Fanuc and Mazatrol.
  • Able to interpret and work off of G & M codes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hands productively.
  • A willingness to cross-train and work in other functional areas of the shop as needed.
  • Proficient with various precision measuring and inspection tools.
  • Has own tools.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Gibbs programming with SolidWorks.
  • Mazak experience a plus.
