Job Output
Reporting to the Final Department Supervisor, this position is responsible for editing and loading programs, technical support and the day-to-day operation of the plant’s CNC machines, namely the Weeke CNC machine
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- High attention to detail, accuracy and problem‑solving skills.
- Oversee the operation of the machine ensuring safe work practices as well as keeping the CNC work area safe for all who work or enter the area; maintain a clean/organized state to prevent slip/trips and other safety risks; bring to management any safety concerns outside your control; maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Ensure the uploading of all programmed jobs, setting up to run the job, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintain quality and safety standards; keep production records; label manufactured products for shipment/secondary work; maintain equipment and supplies.
- Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Capable of using calipers and other precision measuring devices.
- Inspect and validate that the base Marshfield raw material meets quality specs to be machined into the purchase order’s finished product; have a solid understanding and execute work against product quality specifications.
- Program the CNC by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; set tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; prove part programs.
- Set‑up the CNC for operations by ensuring that the tool carriage/head is in home position and understanding the proper reference points on the table for the upcoming job; select proper tools; ensure stock pushers and all other machine devices are in proper safe position and ready to execute machining tasks.
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first‑run part, and sample workpieces; adhere to quality standards.
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, taking measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools; adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs.
- Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; read technical publications if needed; be willing to participate in training on site or offsite with proper vendor(s) if needed.
- Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments; improve overall process flow or efficiency.
- When the CNC is not in use, the CNC Technician will assist with other job tasks as defined by his manager or other members of the plant management team.
- Perform any other function the supervisor deems necessary.

- Ability to communicate effectively and lead team members.
- Knowledge of and understanding of the forming process for the Marshfield products.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Plant Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to occasional hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection. Other PPE available upon request.
Education and/or Experience
- Required: GED or High School diploma.
